A mattress protectors - It is a unique piece of bedding, which is often, overlooked. Granted it does not make the bed look any prettier but that should not make it is less important than the fancy duvet cover.
As the name suggests, the purpose of a mattress protector is to protect a mattress. It should protect a mattress from contamination from perspiration and other nasty substances and can even prevent a build-up of allergens associated with contamination from dust mites, bed bugs and mould, thereby protecting the health of the user.
Mattresses are heavy and cumbersome, and quite impossible to keep spotlessly clean, whereas a mattress protector is fully washable just like ordinary bedding. For a relatively small investment, a mattress protectors protects the health of the sleeper and prolongs the lifespan of the mattress. Consider the cost of replacing a mattress compared to that of purchasing a good quality mattress protector and it becomes apparent how relatively small an investment is required.
A standard mattress protector is a lightly quilted, sheet that provides more protection than an ordinary sheet and slight protection against liquids but little or no protection from dust mite allergens.
Waterproof mattress protectors keep the mattress clean by preventing the absorption of bodily fluids or other liquids, resulting from spillages, such as coffee. Waterproof mattress protectors come in the form of fitted sheets, manufactured from a special, breathable material.
These days it is easy to find waterproof bedding of all types. Waterproof Bedding is available for normal (household) usage and heavy usage (as in hospitals).
